For those of you who are familiar with Flowerpots and Families, you know just how incredibly meaningful and impactful the lesson is! I normally allocate an entire week to this lesson and created this activity as an extension piece. Here is a breakdown of what the week looks like for my Principles of Human Services course:
 
✏️ Day 1: Students create their very own definition of the word "family" and decorate their clay pots using sharpies accordingly
 
✏️ Day 2: We shatter our pots to reflect the family experiencing a major crisis and life-altering event then label the shattered pieces with things that can break families apart
and cause instability.
 
✏️ Day 3: Students are given this Community Resource Investigation and must find one
one resource in our community that aids and assists families going through a
particular crisis.
 
✏️ Day 4: Students share their resources with the class and begin gluing their pots back
together
 
Once pots are glued back together you can plant seeds in them! I recommend grass seeds - you'll have a full head within a week!
