The government changed its mind AGAIN, just like they do every 5 years, so let's help our students make sense of this new upside-down food pyramid and how it impacts them directly!
With your guidance, students will analyze the updated U.S. Dietary Guidelines and confidently classify foods using the new “Eat Real Food” framework.
This editable, ready-to-teach lesson includes an engaging warm-up, a deep dive into the evolution of nutrition guidance since 1992, and built-in higher-level questioning that encourages students to think critically and define what “real food” truly means. Plus, choose from three interactive activities that allow students to apply their learning in meaningful, real-world ways.
To demonstrate their learning, students will be interviewing for a position as the Director of School Nutrition Services with a local school district.
The interview requires that they create a 5-day school lunch menu that aligns with the new guidelines.
