Classroom Mottos are something new I tried out my 2nd year of teaching!
 
If your classes are anything like mine, you know the struggle of being that "filler" elective. While my school does try to stick to endorsements and career pathways, we know that we can expect to receive a handful of students who did not choose to be in our class. In order to help make my classes more meaningful to ALL students, I decided to come up with class mottos!
 
I used this activity as one of the stations on the first day of school. I printed each quote on 8.5x11" paper and stuck it in a photo frame. When students rotate to this table, they are given a small sheet that has the following questions:
 
1. What do you believe the message is behind this quote?
2. How do you think it will apply to this course?
3. Using the Chromebook, find a similar quote that relates and share it below.
 
Anytime a student says, "I don't see why I need to learn this" or asks, "Why is this important" I will always be able to point to our motto and provide an explanation! In this 4 sheet pdf, you'll find our motto for Hospitality & Tourism, Human Services, Human Growth, and Family & Community Service. My vision is to have my librarian blow these up into poster size and I will frame them up on the wall.
