Calling all Work-Based Learning Instructors! This resource is JUST for you! I'll forever remember just how overwhelmed I was those first initial weeks of school trying to coordinate a practicum experience for my high school students. I was juggling between 5 different training sites, 32 cooperating teachers, and what felt like a huge transportation nightmare. The official "first day" for internships was quickly approaching and I struggled to keep a mental note of all the logistics. These thoughts replayed over and over.... "How many students are at this location? What time does this bus need to leave? Will my students remember xyz? This location is much further - this group needs to leave 10 minutes earlier than the rest."

I quickly realized that my students too were anxious and did not want to miss a single beat during their first week. They were feeling just as overwhelmed as me! For many of my students, this was their first time being in a job-like scenario. I began thinking of one simple, small way that I could help ease their fears and help them confidently enter their internship experience.

LANYARD INSERTS!

Each of my students received a laminated insert that fits into their lanyard containing step-by-step instructions for the procedures they needed to follow on days that they'd travel to their training sites. While some may view it as "coddling" or holding their hand, my students were so relieved and grateful that they had a mini-guide on them at all times. It was that little boost of confidence they needed to hop on the bus and take off! As for me, I was also able to have confidence in them knowing that I didn't have to worry about getting texts or calls asking, "Mrs. Collins what time does the bus leave?" Everything they needed was right on their lanyard!
